Well-being Design Guide
In 2023, the Housing Bureau initiated a city-wide public engagement exercise involving residents of public housing estates, NGOs, professionals, academics, and Government departments to develop a well-being design guide for public housing estates. The guide seeks to create public spaces to enhance the liveability of public housing residents. It would become a pivotal reference for design professionals to develop future public housing estates and undertake improvement works in existing ones.
Masterplan was the planning advisor and a member of the cross-disciplinary professional team. We undertook the approach of “design thinking” and “participatory design” to develop the guide with innovative design strategies Design thinking workshops were held for “resident-oriented” discussions and brainstorming potential strategies. The team advocated for strategies on aspects including inter-estate connections, green living and active transport. The Guide was published in September 2024 and gained the Silver Award from The Hong Kong Institute of Planners in 2025.
